On a bright and relatively warm Autumn day, the Windfall Trophy took place at Colne Valley Golf Club. Played as a qualifier by affiliated Essex clubs, the finalists are invited to play for the Windfall Trophy, a beautiful silver water jug. The trophy was commissioned by ELCGA after receiving a bonus from the de-mutualisation of the Halifax Building Society, hence the name 'Windfall'.
Thirty three women took part on a course in excellent condition, although with the onset of Autumn, recent heavy rain and blustery conditions, it proved to be a challenging round. However, two women played to their handicap and took the spoils. Losing on countback and coming second was Lesley Hitchcock from Stoke by Nayland, and the winner, from Frinton, was Claire Vaughn, both with 36 points.
Our thanks to all of the players, to Joyce Macfarlane for running the day, to Colne Valley Lady Captain, Karen Charles and to Colne Valley Golf Club who were such excellent hosts.
