Women's Knockout Finals

On Sunday October 20th the Knockout finals were held at Potters Five Lakes. Bundled up in hats, coats, waterproofs and mufflers, buffeted by strong winds and intermittent rain showers ten ladies did their best in challenging conditions.

First to play were Olivia Frost from Thorpe Hall and Helen Chung from Clacton competing for the Gold trophy. Olivia made a strong start and hung onto her lead to win 4&2. The Silver match between Hilary Willett from Boyce Hill and Ann Longman from Lexden Wood followed a similar pattern to the first match with Ann taking a 5up lead into the back nine, eventually winning 5&4. In the Bronze match Dawn Robinson from Chelmsford also lead the way during the first nine but Sarah Taylor from Frinton reduced the lead to one after 12 holes. However Dawn came back strongly, winning three of the next four holes, to win the match 4&2.

The Hilo Foursomes between Claire Cosgrove and Lyndsey Bishop from Colne Valley and Kate Moss and Lesley Harvey from Crondon Park started similarly one-sided for ten holes with Colne Valley the leaders, but their 4 hole lead was pegged back to 1 after 15 holes. A great birdie putt on the par 3 13th had helped reduce the deficit, but three halves coming in meant Colne Valley took the match 1up on the 18th.

The trophies were presented by County President Nicola Thomas while the ladies enjoyed some well earned refreshments.

Many thanks go to Rhys Hodder and his staff at Potters Five Lakes who looked after us very well and who made the day run smoothly.

Thanks also to Sandra, Len, Peter and George, our rules officials, who accompanied each match.

Finally thanks to Elaine Davidson, County Captain and Nicola for their help and support and to all the players and caddies who never lost their sense of humour despite the weather.
