Sunday 7th September saw the Munro Foursomes final being played between defending champions, E-K Brown and Rachel Casey, from Benton Hall, and Alison Holborn and Amanda Shakespear from The Warren.
The match was played at Gosfield Lake in dry, sunny conditions if a little breezy. County Captain Elaine Davidson introduced the players and did the toss which Benton Hall won, electing to go first.
The match started very equably with two halves, three wins and three losses apiece in the first eight holes. Both teams played a few nervy shots whilst settling into the match. Then Benton Hall won the ninth hole and from then on put their foot down to finish eight up after eighteen holes, when play stopped for a sandwich lunch.
Despite a brave effort on the part of Alison and Amanda, who played some fine golf, the momentum was with the girls from Benton Hall who went on to win the first six holes of the afternoon round. At this point the match was won, but with rarely more than a one shot advantage per hole. Many thanks to Sandra Goff who refereed the match.
Before we all enjoyed tea and cake, Karen Charles, our County President, presented the trophy and thanked everyone for their input to the day.
The atmosphere throughout the day was light hearted and friendly. Gosfield Lake were excellent hosts, the staff very friendly and helpful, so many thanks to you all. The cherry to top it off was Maud Instone who stood in for the Gosfield Ladies Captain and was a delight, her helpful and cheerful demeanour adding to the ambiance of the day.
Thanks too to the members from both clubs who came today to support their teams.
